The opening night of the 54Hours weekend begins with a pitch session where project ideas are made to the group as a whole. These pitches will be delivered using an 'Ignite' presentation style. Every presenter needs to use the template which is structured in an 'Ignite' format and is provided below. This will ensure that presentations are not too long, and that they move along nicely (you don't want to boor everyone to tears).
Also, all of the presentations will be set up on a single laptop ahead of time that will be connected to a projector. Every presentation will be run from this same laptop/projector to minimize the amount of time between presentations spent on messing around with the hardware. At this point we do not intend to have a PA system onsite so be prepared to speak up (if the attendance makes it look like we will need a larger room we may reconsider this point).
So, some of you are probably wondering...
What Is Ignite?
Started by Brady Forrest, Technology Evangelist for O'Reilly Media, and Bre Pettis of Etsy.com, formerly of MAKE Magazine, Ignite was inspired by Pecha Kucha Nights, where speakers are given 20 slides, each shown for 20 seconds, giving each speaker 6 minutes and 40 seconds of fame. The first Ignite took place in Seattle in 2006, and since then the event has become an international phenomenon, with gatherings in Helsinki, Finland; Paris, France; New York, New York; and many other locations.
To get the Ignite template click here. Also, if you intend to present a project idea please drop us line. We need to know how many ideas will be presented in order to plan accordingly.
The template contains some suggestions for some of the things you may want to cover off, as well as a general structure, but feel free to present the content in whatever order, and with whatever emphasis you think is the most effective. We only ask that you do not modify the slide transitions or add slides to the deck in order to maintain the timing.
